HAF by Hafsteinn Júlíusson, his brand, specializes in manufacturing alternative lifestyle design products. From designing a collaborative
Superfarm (an installation at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in 2011) to creating growing jewelry (yes, as in nature), Hafsteinn always seems to have a way to create something you didn't know you needed (but, of course you do). With his keen explorations and superior concepts of design he manages to produce products that are simple, elegant and humorous.
I have been following Hafsteinn for quite some time now, always so inspired and interested in his work and it was great to get the chance to ask him a few questions. Enjoy!

NAME: Hafsteinn Júlíusson
AGE: 27
OCCUPATION: Product Designer
LOCATION: Reykjavik, Iceland
SOUPDESIGN: You have been very busy since your graduation in 2008. What is it that keeps your creative juices flowing?
HAF: I guess it's just the fact that I am really passionate about my designs. That is probably what keeps my creativity running. But on top of that all, we have got some great feedback, and that is always a great boost.
SOUPDESIGN: You seem to have a passion for healthy food related designs. Are you on a mission to get the world healthier through design?
HAF: Yeah that's true, but I am not only interested in healthier lifestyle. In all my projects I try to deal with important subjects and I believe I can bring a positive message and meanings into the society through the everyday objects. And with our projects we are not trying to preach so, our aim is first and foremost, to have fun with the designs.
SOUPDESIGN: What or who inspires you the most?
HAF: Various types of people and weird and funny things.
SOUPDESIGN: You recently won a competition creating new food packaging for Icelandair. Congratulations! What was your process with that project and how did you arrive at your final designs?
HAF: Thanks. In our approach we just looked at the main user, which is the tourist coming to visit Iceland, and our aim was to give them a new experience based on the Icelandic nature and language.
(Unfortunately we can't show you any pictures of the Icelandair food packaging since it is still in development, but perhaps next time you hop on a plane to Iceland you might get a sandwich wrapped in one).
